Best Muskie Rod Under $100
I was recently asked by a new muskie angler what I thought the best muskie rod under $100 was. I did some research and testing and came up with, the Bass Pro Shops graphite series muskie casting rod. Offered in a variety of lengths and actions. It comes in for an affordable price (at the time of this writing) of $49.99, not including shipping.
It is constructed of RT1 graphite blank, has stainless steel eyes with aluminum oxide inserts, a graphite reel seat and full cork grips.
With this rod, I caught four muskies. ranging from 36" to 38". It performed flawlessly. The only drawback I could find to this rod, is that it isn't capable of throwing some of the larger baits you find in the muskie world. Double 10 buck-tails, large crank baits, and plastics like the medussa's by Chaos Tackle, are a bit over the "working limit" of this rod. All in all, I find it to be a good starter rod for someone wanting to get into the sport of hunting muskies.
