Huskie Muskie Leaders
Recently, Bill from Huskie Muskie Leaders sent me out several different leaders that his company makes to test out and review. When I received it the packaging was in great shape, having made the long trek from Canada to the United States. Inside I found several different styles and types of leaders. Jerk bait leaders, glide bait, and regular steel for buck-tails and such. Also in the package were various lengths of Fluorocarbon for casting and trolling.
The first thing that caught my eye was the apparent high quality and attention to detail that went into these leaders. The steel leaders are tied not crimped, which is a must when using steel leaders. Huskie Muskie takes it a step further. How many times have you used a tied steel leader only to have the tie not stay in place resulting in the snap sliding around causing your bait to foul while casting? Not with the Huskie Muskie Leader! They went a step further than the competition by placing a small amount of shrink tube around the connection. This adds stability to the knot in addition to added protection. It seems that nothing has been sacrificed in the way of quality to create these leaders. All of this at a very modest price when compared to “high end” leaders. Pick some up, you’ll be impressed. I guarantee it!
The next leader I found and used was a jerk-bait leader. For anyone who regularly follows my blog or social media accounts, they know I am a big fan of jerk-baits. Now I do have jerk-bait leaders that I use but they will be put up now that I have the Huskie Muskie jerk-bait leader! On the first cast with this leader tied on, I immediately noticed a difference (for the better) at how my bait performed. This is due to the leader material being of a better quality, and flat out built better than the competition. You can bet that I’ll have one on my jerk-bait rod year ‘round!
Last but certainly not least, fluorocarbon. I’ve always been hesitant on using fluorocarbon just because I am a creature of habit. I like what I am used to and change is not good. That is becoming a thing of the past, as it will keep me limited on my ability to catch giant Muskies. You need to be versatile and have the ability to adapt to changing conditions to stay on these fish. I guess part of my former aversion to fluorocarbon comes from not really knowing much about it. Well folk’s due diligence has been given. That’s right, I’m jumping on the proverbial bandwagon.
After using several different designs of fluoro leaders, I had settled on a certain brand/model to use. That was until I received these from Huskie Muskie. Finally, someone has created what I was looking for. These leaders are high quality, strong and have little features that add strength and stability. The biggest feature that impressed me was the loop protectors that have been added. These ensure that abrasion won’t be an issue at the connection point of the leader. Much like the serving on a bowstring for hunting. Obviously it can’t last forever, so make sure you regularly inspect your leader and replace them as needed.
I highly recommend and give the Huskie Muskie leader the Muskie Kid seal of approval! Pick yours up today at the many fine retailers listed at the Huskie Muskie website by clicking here.
I hope this blog finds your season going well. Pick up some of these leaders and your season will only get better with the peace of mind that leader failure won’t be the cause of a lost fish that legends are made of!
Keep that lure in the water!
