Muskie Books - must haves for the Muskie "junkie"
All Muskie "junkies" usually have a good selection of reading materials pertaining to their favorite hobby, hunting Muskies. Below I have compiled a short list of "must have" books that make my shelf. I am constantly adding to this collection so check back later for an updated blog. If I add a new book I will update it here at the bottom.
1. History: How can you imagine where Muskie fisheries will be in 5, 10, 20 years without knowing where it started? This is where my grandfather, Larry Ramsell's "compendiums" come in. Call me biased, but you can't beat the amount of information you receive for the minor cost. A MUST HAVE! To order his books, or contact him regarding his famous "out of print/hard to find book list" visit his website. www.larryramsell.com
2. 120 days. Join Bill Hamblin, as he hunts giant muskies on Georgian Bay during the 2015 season. Written in diary format, 120 Days was inspired by Time On The Water. It is a story of success and failure, happiness and sadness, joy and frustration, action and contemplation. It is a story of life.
3. 25 Can't Miss Musky Patterns. This book is written by several pro's, and gives 25 great patterns for Muskies. It covers spring until ice up. A good read.
4. Muskies Suck. Pete Maina. Muskies Suck is the hilarious collection of what can (and did) go wrong in Pete Maina’s pursuit of muskies. From guides’ slip-ups, to near disasters while traveling, to clients’ miscues, to the many that got away, Muskies Suck is a funny, easy-to-read description of why muskies, well… suck. Pete Maina is famous throughout the musky world as a guide, lure manufacturer, writer and fishing show star. With three decades of experience guiding fishermen for muskies, Pete is an authority on the subject of hating muskies.
5. Muskies Still Suck. Pete Maina.
There you have it. Some books that every Muskie junkie should have on their shelf. I will list more at a later time. I'm sure once you start reading them, you will add more. The next book fuels the fire like the thought of the next fish on the end of your line!
Keep that lure in the water!
